How Do I Do It?

US businesses can choose from two Facebook Shop options, Check Out on Facebook and Check Out on Another Website. Business in other countries do not have the first option, but they can choose Message to Buy in addition to Check Out on Another Website. Below are the step-by-step instructions for opening each one.

First Steps

  1. Go to Facebook.com, log in with your business account credentials, and navigate to your business page.
  • If you don’t have a business account yet, you’ll have to set one up and create a business page.
  • Facebook also offers free webinars like this one on how to turn your business page into a Facebook Shop, and free resources for using Facebook for businesses.
  1. Click the Shop tab under your cover photo. If you can’t locate it, navigate to Page
  2. Click the option to Edit Page, and Add a Tab, and locate the Shop Click on Add Tab and refresh the page to see the Shop tab now appearing below your cover photo.
  3. Review the Merchant Terms and Policies and check the box to agree and click
  4. Reenter your Facebook password if prompted.

Check Out on Facebook

This option allows Facebook shoppers to shop and check out directly on your Page.

  1. After agreeing to the Merchant Terms and Policies, choose the option to Check Out on Facebook and click Continue.
  2. Enter your business address and email address in the fields provided.
  3. Select the option to Use this email address for customer service inquiries, or uncheck it to enter a customer service email address if you prefer to handle customer feedback, receive updates from Facebook, and manage your payment processor.
  4. Select your preferred payment processor (Stripe or PayPal).
    1. If you select PayPal, clickConnect with PayPal and wait to be redirected to enter your login information. When your PayPal setup is complete, click
  • If you don’t yet have a PayPal account, you’ll need to sign up for a Business account.
  • If you have Paypal but it is not a Business account, you’ll need to upgrade to Paypal for Business.
    1. If you select Stripe, click the link to connect to an existing Stripe accountand follow the steps on that page.
  • If you don’t yet have a Stripe account, clickSubmit and wait for an email from Stripe with the steps to follow to get set up.
  • If Stripe asks you for a company website but you don’t have one, enter the URL for your new Facebook Shop to qualify. Your Facebook Shop link will be in this format: facebook.com/MyFacebookPage/shop.
    1. Log out to keep your account safe and wait for Facebook to approve your Facebook Shop.
    2. Log back in and start loading your products onto your brand-new Facebook Shop.

Check Out on Another Website

This option sends Facebook Shop browsers your business website for checkout.

  1. After agreeing to the Merchant Terms and Policies, choose the option to Check Out on Another Websiteand click
  2. Select the currency that you want to process for all purchases and click Save.
  • Note that your currency choice can’t be changed unless you delete your shop section and create a new one.
  1. Log out to keep your account safe and wait for Facebook to approve your Facebook Shop.
  2. Log back in and start loading your products onto your brand-new Facebook Shop. You will be able to add your website link at this stage.

Message to Buy

This option allows potential customers to send you a message if they need more information about a product.

  1. After agreeing to the Merchant Terms and Policies, choose the option to Message to Buy and click
  2. Select the currency that you want to process for all purchases and click Save.
  • Note that your currency choice can’t be changed unless you delete your shop section and create a new one.
  1. Log out to keep your account safe and wait for Facebook to approve your Facebook Shop.
  2. Log back in and start loading your products onto your brand-new Facebook Shop.
